Probably the most important part of becoming a musician is listening to a wide variety of music, ancient and modern, solo and orchestral, classical and popular. By listening you develop your taste as well as your knowledge. At the top of the list is always live performance. As good as modern recordings are, they can never quite substitute for an actual event. However, recordings and the radio will of necessity provide the main source.
